Boom! new piece ready to go...

Finally finished this brand new piece, titled "Booming Bitterns". Prints available in the next week.

Bitterns are funny looking birds aren't they? I am yet to see one with my own eyes, and v eager indeed. But they boom!!!!! Seriousy, they make a booming call during their breeding season.

Had a trip up to Battersea on Sunday, to the Affordable Art Fair. Some great work on show. I did treat myself to a small Dee Beale print from Boxbird, called Red Hare. Beautiful and bold, to add to my collection of hare artwork.

Anyway, check back for print availability of "Boom" - details to follow.

a new year...

New year, new ideas....new energy!! This year i'm looking to put on some solo exhibitions, hopefully in whitstable and canterbury, as well as getting some work up to london. The hunt is on for venues!!!

For now, here are a couple of older works, which i am really really proud of. Both are still in print, so contact me for details.

As you know by now, i love birds. I also love rabbits and hares. Particularly hares. MAGICAL CREATURES they are!! their grace is captivating, and their speed inspiring!!! They leap and bound and whoosh, and occasionally they even box!!!! I dream of that day when i can witness this great display!!! Its not often you see a hare these days, when i do catch a glimpse, it makes me whoop and clap with joy!!! What a privilage!!!

cuckoo, cuckoo!!

Another new piece that i have just finished this morning. Back to pink for this one, nice and bright with lots of hand drawn elements. The Cuckoo.... sneaky and sly and v v shy of maternal responsibility, they watch smaller birds, noting their daily habits and routines, typically warblers, and they wait and wait, then when the time is right, they invade the smaller birds' nest, lay their egg in it leave, landing the surrogate bird with a baby that isnt theirs. The fledgling cuckoo then grows rapidly, overtaking the warbler chick in size and determination, commanding the food brought back by the mother, then often nudging the baby warbler out of the nest completely, falling to their end. I wonder if the bird world will ever get wise to the ways of the cuckoo and decide enough is enough and rise up!!! RISE UP RISE UP THE WARBLERS OF THIS EARTH!!!

brand new piece...

Hi all,

Here it is!! The finished piece. I have been working on this piece off and on over the last couple of months, and am finally there with it, and am happy to say its complete!! It's colourful, busy and thought provoking, and loosely based around the pirate radio stations that were broadcast from the old wartime sea forts off the Kent coast. I took a boat trip out of Whitstable in May and was able to take some photos to use as source material, they really were astonishing to look at, and felt weird imagining them being occupied by wartime soldiers. They're pretty rusted now, and the walkways connecting them to one another have eroded, but just stunning!! Anyway, using those as the base to build the piece around, i brought in lots of vivid colour and hand drawn elements and just built up the layers as my thought process daydreamed and dallied about, until the final thoughts on text came through. Done!! i am really happy with it. This piece, titled "of moon and tide" will be on show and for sale at the upcoming show i am taking part in at The Sportsman, Seasalter next month. Details to follow v soon. ENJOY!!

My work is now occupying One White Wall, the exhibition space at Gilbert & Clark Frame and Print in Maidstone, Kent. All work is available to buy framed, and some pieces available print only. Pop along and check it out, address is 4 Mill Street, Maidstone, Kent, ME15 6XH - tel 01622 685146.
