summers here to stay...

Finally, some glorious sunshine to bathe in. I've been trying to create new stuff for some upcoming shows - first up is at the michelin star'd gastro eatery The Sportsman in Seasalter, Kent. It's a group show lasting for a whole month!!!! yay!! Our good friend Angus Mclewin will showing some of his fabulous skyscapes from his Estuary English project, which he showed at the same venue last year, along with some new prints. Elaine Gilbert will be displaying some lovely bird photography - not the images we're so used to seeing that have been captured pin sharp with an enormous lens - but something a bit more organic, more natural. They really are special. All the pieces i have chosen are fairly new and are being displayed for the first time. I think Angus is gonna take up the main bar, and us two gals are sharing the back bar space. Really looking forward to it.

Next up is a solo show at the recently opened Craig Turner Gallery in Maidstone, Kent. I'm super excited about this show, it's a delicious space with some great natural light. I'm aiming to get more new stuff ready for this one, am really going for it.

Meantime, here's a peek at some of my latest work - all of which will be on show over the course of the two shows.

My work is currently available to buy at Gilbert & Clark Frame and Print, 4 Mill Street, Maidstone, Kent. T: 01622 685146 E: info@gilbertandclark.com for info, or email me directly at chrisfclark2@btinternet.com.

Inspiration comes from so many sources - but in all my work i try to project a sense of movement, of space and of freedom. Birds are so symbolic to me - they possess a very privileged position of freedom to move, something we as humans can never possibly achieve. The freedom of the skies, the whole world over, the unbeatable stamina to fly across the continents as the seasons change. Bird envy!! such a simple yet such a complex existence, never to be taken over by rapidly evolving technology, never to encounter poverty, never to encounter a deep hatred between their race. Yet maybe never to feel? do birds feel? apparently it's ok to eat fish cos they don't have any feelings, but do fish feel? i wonder what it feels like to leap up the rivers and waterfalls like a salmon does? hmmmm. The natural world offers many moments to ponder.
