kittiwakes' motel

A place so close to my heart - Howick rocks - in my home county of Northumberland, is an amazing haven for thousands of Gulls, particularly Kittiwakes. They build their nests on the many many ledges in the cliff's structure. The sound is amazing, and white streaks from their mess make the cliffs look like they are of chalk!!!! They build, they breed, they swoop and dive, they feed and they squawk - repeat.........on a constant loop. mesmerising. Each ledge is occupied - often by more than one family - and the kittiwakes look happy. Their perches look comfy and splendid. The last time i visited, i watched and photographed and watched and watched - the entire scene was like that of a busy motel - comings and goings constantly, so i recreated these thoughts into glorious blocks of colour and called it Kittiwakes' Motel. I hope you like it.
